Allegations of therapist-patient sex trigger media frenzy
Article Abstract:
Massachusetts residents are calling for a law to ban sex between medical personnel and patients, after extensive media coverage of the case against psychiatrist Margaret Bean-Bayog. She is being sued for wrongful death and malpractice by the family of Paul Lozano, a Harvard medical student she treated prior to his suicide. Bean-Bayog denies having sex with Lozano. Although the Massachusetts state medical board has denied a request to suspend her license, they are investigating her on charges of substandard practice.

Antitrust relief coming, but what kind?
Article Abstract:
The Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission are expected to relax antitrust laws to allow hospitals and physicians to more easily form integrated health care delivery organizations. Specifically, the Justice Department has been asked by the Clinton administration to draft guidelines to clarify antitrust issues. The new guidelines are likely to cover physician joint ventures but may not address physicians' wishes for more authority to self-regulate and negotiate with insurers.
