Nurse heroes of the century
Article Abstract:
Caring for world-famous musician Jacqueline Du Pre through twelve years of multiple sclerosis meant nurse Ruth Ann Cannings gave up the chance to marry and have her own family, although she has no regrets. Du Pre employed Cannings as a home nurse in 1975 after meeting her in St Mary's Hospital, London. Cannings was one of the first practitioners of holistic medicine in her approach to nursing Du Pre. Her self-sacrifice has been immortalized in both a book and film about Du Pre's life.

Article Abstract:
Technological advances in the provision of bladder control management for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) mean the majority of patients no longer have to suffer the indignity and embarrassment of incontinence along with the other symptoms of the disease. Management of fluid intake and dietary requirements is key to bladder control, with anticholinergics helping MS patients gain bladder stability and lead a better quality of life.
