Analysis of observational studies in the presence of treatment selection bias: Effects of invasive cardiac management on AMI survival using propensity score and instrumental variable method
Article Abstract:
Multivariable model risk adjustment, propensity score risk adjustment, propensity-based matching and instrumental variable analysis are compared for removing the effects of selection bias. The results have shown that the estimates of cardiac catheterization with long-term acute myocardial infarction (AMI) mortality are highly sensitive to analytic method and the instrumental variable analysis might produce less biased estimates of treatment effects.

Brief report: Acute illness from dry ice exposure during Hurricane Ivan-Alabama, 2004
Article Abstract:
A man aged 34 years in Alabama faced acute illness of shortness of breath due to storage of 100-lb dry ice blocks in his truck's front seat during the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. As the windows were closed there was improper ventilation that lead to inhalations of large concentrations of CO2, which can also result in harmful effects including death.

Socioeconomic status, service patterns, and perceptions of care among survivors of acute myocardial infarction in Canada
Article Abstract:
Some have argued that Canada's uniquely restrictive approach to private health insurance keeps the socioeconomic elite inside the public system. Studies shows that compared with those with lower incomes or less education, upper middle-class Canadians gain preferential access to services within the publicly funded health care system.
