Analysis of prognostic factors in stage I epithelial ovarian carcinoma: importance of degree of differentiation and deoxyribonucleic acid ploidy in predicting relapse
Article Abstract:
DNA ploidy, the stage of cancer and the degree of cell differentiation are the most significant predictors of survival after development of stage I epithelial ovarian cancer. Ploidy refers to the number of chromosome sets present. Cell differentiation refers to the developmental stage of cells. Cancer cells are not mature cells. Analysis of variables affecting the survival rate of 290 women with stage I ovarian cancer found that none of the 77 patients with well-differentiated DNA diploid tumors had a recurrence of their cancer. There appeared to be no significant difference in survival rates between women with single aneuploid, tetraploid or multiploid tumors.

Review of the granulosa-theca cell tumors from the Emil Novak Ovarian Tumor Registry
Article Abstract:
It is crucial to accurately identify the histologic type of granulosa and theca cell tumors, which are a type of ovarian cancer. Various studies have reported widely different mortality rates in patients with these tumors. Researchers analyzed 454 case reports from a tumor registry and found that 97 women had granulosa cell tumors, 116 had theca cell tumors and 97 had granulosa-theca cell tumors. Among women with granulosa cell tumors only, the mortality rate was 37%, compared to 7% in women with granulosa, theca and granulosa-theca cell tumors.

Prognostic factors of patients with yolk sac tumors of the ovary
Article Abstract:
The prognosis of yolk sac tumors of the ovary is very good if the tumor is small and has not spread to other organs. If there is no fluid in the abdomen, women should have surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. Cisplatin-based chemotherapy may be effective also.
