Antibiotic treatment of children with sore throat
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to measure rates of antibiotic prescribing and group A beta-hemolytic streptococci (GABHS) testing and to evaluate the association between testing and antibiotic treatment for children with sore throat. Physicians prescribed antibiotics to 53% of children with sore throat, in excess of the maximum expected prevalence of GABHS.

Antibiotic Treatment of Adults With Sore Throat by Community Primary Care Physicians: A National Survey, 1989-1999
Article Abstract:
Many primary care physicians prescribe antibiotics for people with a sore throat, even though bacteria only cause between 5% and 17% of all cases of sore throat. In addition, many doctors do not prescribe penicillin or erythromycin, which are the most effective antibiotics against bacterial throat infections.

The risks faced by underinsured children in the U.S. due to non-administration of prescribed and recommended vaccines are presented and suggests option to overcome this problem.
