Congenital heart disease in adults, part 1
Article Abstract:
Many children with congenital heart disease survive into adulthood. As of the year 2000, there are an estimated 1 million adults with congenital heart disease. Ventricular septal defect is the most common defect in children. This defect is caused by a hole in the tissue that separates the right side of the heart from the left. It can also occur in the atria, to cause an atrial septal defect. Patent ductus arteriosus, aortic stenosis, pulmonary stenosis, and coarctation of the aorta are other forms of congenital heart disease.

Antiplatelet therapy for ischemic heart disease
Article Abstract:
Cardiac patients undergoing angioplasty to open blocked coronary arteries should also take aspirin and clopidogrel if they have a low risk of a surgical complication. Those with a high risk of a surgical complication should take aspirin, clopidogrel, and abciximab. All of these drugs inhibit platelets, which are blood cells that form blood clots.

The Eisenmenger syndrome in adults
Article Abstract:
A review of the causes and treatment of Eisenmenger syndrome is presented. This syndrome is usually caused by an abnormal opening between the right and left sides of the heart which causes blood to pass from the right side to the left. This causes un-oxygenated blood to travel through the body, which leads to low oxygen levels and an increase in the number of red blood cells. This causes blood to become thick, which can cause abnormal blood clotting and other complications. Treatment includes removing small amounts of blood and heart-lung transplantation.
