Are we ready for a flu pandemic?
Article Abstract:
Influenza experts have warned that a flu pandemonic in the UK would leave the health service seriously short of nurses, and government would have to introduce timesaving measures to cope with workload pressures. Experts at a conference in London agreed that the UK was not ready for a flu pandemic, but proposed various measures that included allowing nurses to change prescriptions to oral drugs, giving oxygen by nasal cannulae, and setting time and age limits on the patients treated.

The elective evolution

Elective surgery has arguably seen the fastest evolution in nurses' roles as earlier it was viewed as a part of emergency and trauma, however, radical changes powered by The NHS Plan have opened exciting opportunities for nurses. The aim of the plan is to abolish waiting lists and replace them with booked appointments with a maximum wait of three months by the end of 2008.
