Assisted-suicide case consensus: we need better end-of-life care
Article Abstract:
New York Attorney General Dennis C. Vacco is an opponent of assisted suicide, but even some proponents of the practice support his creation of a state panel to address the issue of end-of-life care. The consensus opinion is that such care needs to be improved, helping to prevent the perceived need for assisted suicide. American Medical Assn trustee Yank Coble, noting that end-of-life care is high on the organization's list of priorities, expressed his support for Vacco's panel.

Another fairy tale unfolding, with the ending yet to be written
Article Abstract:
Outgoing American Medical Assn (AMA) president Robert E. McAfee, in comments at the group's 1995 meeting, used a fairy-tale format to address the issues of Medicare reform and family violence. He noted that, while Republican lawmakers have asked for the AMA's advice on how to reconfigure Medicare, it is still unknown whether that advice will be acted upon. McAfee said that the number of physicians participating in the Physicians' Coalition Against Family Violence is too low.
