Association between duration of obesity and risk of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus: the Sotetsu Study
Article Abstract:
Long periods of obesity may increase the risk of diabetes mellitus in middle-aged men. A group of 1,598 Japanese men with a history of obesity were at a higher risk of developing diabetes, especially if having a body mass index (BMI) of at least 25 lasted a decade or more. Being extremely obese (BMI above 27.8) for at least one year also predicted the onset of diabetes more strongly than other lifestyle factor or physiological aspect.

Body mass index and color cancer in a national sample of adult US men and women
Article Abstract:
A 19-year study which used a body-mass index to determine whether obesity is a risk factor in the incidence of colon cancer in adult Americans is discussed. Study findings support the hypothesis that colon cancer is associated with excessive body weight.
