A link between the epidemic of ectopic pregnancy and the 'baby-boom' cohort
Article Abstract:
An epidemic of ectopic pregnancy in Finland appears to be linked to the 'baby-boom' cohort, born 1945-54. Changes have been analyzed in 5-year age groups and by 5-year cohorts in the 1970s and 1980s, which would have been the most fertile period for the age groups. Ectopic pregnancy has a strong correlation with age. Changes in behavior of large age groups can cause changes in occurrence of some health effects. From the early 1970s to the middle of the 1980s the number of new cases of ectopic pregnancy reported annually tripled and quadrupled and the calculated incidence was among the highest in the world in 1985.
