Association of antioxidants with memory in a multiethnic elderly sample using the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Article Abstract:
In a study of elderly people, decreasing serum levels of vitamin E per unit of cholesterol were consistently associated with increasing levels of poor memory after adjustment for education, age, income, vascular risk factors, and other trace elements and minerals. Poor memory performance was not seen to be associated with serum levels of vitamins C and A, selenium and beta-carotene. Association of antioxidants with memory has been studied in a multiethnic sample of elderly people using the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and data on 4,809 subjects.
