The role of indigenous peoples in the environmental crisis: the example of the Kayapo of the Brazilian Amazon
Article Abstract:
The destruction of the natural ecological habitat of forest-dwelling indigenous peoples threatens to alter their way of life. Indigenous peoples, like the Kayapo of the Brazilian Amazon, have had to contend with the destruction of the forest which they have dwelled on for centuries. Aside from creating obvious ecological imbalances, the destruction of the Kayapo's living area threatens to completely disrupt their social structures and institutions. Kayapo tribe members have travelled all over the world making their case heard at environmental conferences.

Environmental concerns high for border residents
Article Abstract:
A survey of residents of the Arizona-Mexico border area show a discrepancy in attitudes towards pollution. Arizonans are less likely to accept pollution as a tradeoff for economic prosperity. Only 34% of surveyed Arizonans are willing to accept higher levels of pollution as a consequence of economic development versus 64% of the surveyed Mexicans. The Mexicans were residents of the state of Sonora.
