Basal cell carcinoma: what dentists need to know
Article Abstract:
Dentists can play an important role in the early diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on the head, neck and face. BCC is a common skin cancer that typically develops on areas of the skin exposed to sunlight. BCC may appear as nonpigmented, nodular lesions, ulcerations, or scaly skin lesions. Most BCC lesions can be surgically or chemically removed, with a cure rate over 90%. Radiation therapy may be required for cancers not accessible surgically.
