Bedside manners
Article Abstract:
The quality of hand-overs of patients from one nurse to another can be improved by carrying out the hand-over at the patient's bedside rather than in an office away from the ward. Involving patients in hand-over reports allows them to meet the nurses who will look after them during the next shift, as well as giving them the opportunity to ask questions they may not have felt they could ask a consultant. For reasons of confidentiality, the care plan does not include any medical diagnosis and only gives details of problems identified by the patient.
