Beta-adrenergic receptor subtype gene expression in timed-pregnant rat myometrium
Article Abstract:
Messenger ribonucleic acid (RNA) expression for two beta-adrenergic receptors may be identified and show changes during pregnancy in the pregnant rat uterus. Researchers used quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction techniques to identify messenger RNA expression for the beta-1- and beta-2-adrenergic receptors in the muscle tissue of the rat uterus. Beta-1-receptor messenger RNA decreased and beta-2-receptor messenger RNA remained steady in the second half of rat pregnancy. Over 90% of the receptors were the beta-2-adrenergic receptor subtype. The techniques may be used to analyze genes in human pregnancy that affect uterine contractility.

Phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C isoform expression in pregnant and nonpregnant rat myometrial tissue
Article Abstract:
Several different forms of the enzyme phospholipase C are present in uterine muscle. This was the conclusion of a study that isolated RNA from uterine tissue samples from rats and converted it to DNA using reverse transcriptase. DNA sequencing then revealed that five forms of phospholipase C were present: phospholipase C-beta1a, phospholipase C-beta3, phospholipase C-gamma1, phospholipase C-gamma2, and phospholipase C-delta1. The levels of these forms of the enzyme were higher in tissue samples from pregnant rats compared to non-pregnant rats.

Protein expression of phospholipase C in pregnant and nonpregnant rat uterine tissue
Article Abstract:
Researchers have found the beta(sub 3), gamma(sub 1), gamma(sub 2), and delta(sub 1) forms of phospholipase C in uterine tissue of pregnant and non-pregnant rats. Phospholipase C participates in muscle contraction and several other physiological processes.
