Bilateral transvaginal sacrospinous colpopexy: preliminary experience
Article Abstract:
Bilateral transvaginal sacrospinous colpopexy may be possible in many patients with vaginal prolapse, particularly in women who have undergone hysterectomy. This procedure internally anchors the vagina in two places to prevent pelvic organs from descending into it. The use of two anchors may retain the vagina in a more normal position. Researchers evaluated the potential for bilateral fixation in 40 women undergoing vaginal suspension. The use of two anchors was successful in 56% of women with uterine prolapse and 73% of woman with vaginal prolapse after hysterectomy.

Teaching sacrospinous colpopexy
Article Abstract:
A simple technique for the surgical treatment of vaginal prolapse may be performed by medical residents. The procedure increases vaginal support to prevent protrusion of the uterus or vagina from the vaginal opening. An attending physician supervised 134 sacrospinous colpopexy procedures performed by surgical residents using standard operating room equipment. Ninety-nine of 112 women treated using the technique reported satisfaction. The technique provides an adequate view of anatomical structures, and allows the attending physician to assist if necessary.

Vaginal subtotal hysterectomy and sacrospinous colpopexy: an option in the management of uterine prolapse
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe the combined use of vaginal hysterectomy and sacrospinous colpopexy to remove a woman's uterus but leave the cervix intact. Many women request this operation so they can avoid sexual disorders caused by the hysterectomy.
