Blacks' concern over HIV/AIDS rises as epidemic continues
Article Abstract:
The social and personal impact of HIV signals an outreach opportunity for effective HIV prevention in the African-American population according to a survey commissioned by the Henry A. Kaiser Foundation. About 36% of the AIDS cases in the US are among American blacks, although they comprise only 13% of the population. African American leaders are demanding that the Centers for Disease Control and others do more on the issue.

Article Abstract:
There is a growing movement across the US for the requirement that persons who are HIV-positive be reported to public health athorities in the various states. In the summer of 1998 Illinois will become the 32nd state which will have mandated HIV reporting of names. However, AIDS advocacy groups are opposed to mandated reporting of HIV names because of testing limitations and other factors.
