Insurance regulators follow Blues' money trail
Article Abstract:
State insurance regulators express concern about management of the new investor-owned health insurance companies formed by mergers with Blue Cross & Blue Shield organizations. Consumer protection advocates question high compensation of executives in such companies as Blue Cross of California. According to some regulators, profit-making corporations should be required to set up charitable trusts with the assets gained from acquiring nonprofit health providers.

Bill seeks equal mental health insurance coverage
Article Abstract:
The Senate has passed an amendment which would prohibit insurance discrimination against employees with mental illnesses. The "mental health parity" amendment would increase health insurance premiums in the private-sector by about 4% per year, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Medicare and Medicaid would be exempt from the mandate due to costs.
