Is Scots 'champion' the wonder nurse?

The government review of the role of school nurses and health visitors in Scotland, which proposes to create one inclusive job of public health nurse, is discussed. The aims and funding of the initiative and the reactions of nurses' representatives are discussed.

Bordering on the ridiculous: Scotland's system for funding the long-term care of older people, is more generous than England's, but is it fair to have a two-tier system?
Article Abstract:
There is a risk of a two-tier system of long-term care for the elderly emerging in England and Scotland as a result of plans by the Scottish Executive to pay for personal and nursing care. In England, funding will be provided only for nursing care supplied by nurses.

Uncertain start for full prescribing
Article Abstract:
Nurses will be allowed to prescribe almost every licensed medicine in the British National Formulary and the Department of Health has pledged 10m pounds sterling to pay for their training. In order to be accepted on prescribing courses nurses must have three years' experience in clinical practice, be deemed competent by their employer, be able to study at degree level and have written confirmation of support from their employer, their programme leader and the designated medical practitioner.
