Brain tumors: new technology helps diagnosis, treatment
Article Abstract:
Brain tumors were diagnosed in 114,000 Americans last year. Successful treatment may be made in half of some kinds of tumors. Physicians are able to target tumors more precisely with new technology.Stereotactic localization is one of the most important technological advances in treating tumors. It uses a three-dimensional MRI scan to map the location of the tumor. Lasers and ultrasound are used for more precise removal of tumors. Stereotactic radiosurgery uses radiation to focus beams to the tumor, so no scapels are required.
