Branching out
Article Abstract:
Physicians can help their private practices survive the trend toward managed care by investing in ancillary services, such as clinical laboratories. Some obstacles to consider are state and federal laws that may restrict physicians from making referrals to services in which they hold an interest. Additional considerations are funding capital, market research regarding the need for such services and certification for some services.

Such automation can help save time, reduce paperwork, but choosing which of the over 1,500 practice management programs is difficult.
