In sickness and in health
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly recognized in the UK that hospitals can play a significant role in health promotion. Hospital professionals, especially nurses, deal with patients when an acute crisis is taking place, a time when direct health promotion work can be particularly effective. Nurses are in a very strong position to develop a health-promoting role. They can develop links with the communities they serve, and can become involved in commissioning and purchasing for health promotion.

Not all plain sailing
Article Abstract:
Cruise nursing offers a wide variety of cases, which can stretch a nurse to the limit of her resources. Working hours tend to cover 12-hour shifts on a weekly basis and nurses are required to work for at least 2 months followed by a month off. Passengers on cruise ships tend to be more elderly, presenting nurses with a wide range of ailments from sea-sickness to heart attacks. Nurses hold a position of authority on a ship and are treated in accordance with their rank.
