Breathtaking experience
Article Abstract:
Patricia Smedley was suffering from severe dyspnoea and right-sided pleuritic pain on admission to the acute medical ward. A chest X-ray led to the diagnosis of a spontaneous right pneumothorax. The patient's anxiety regarding a plan to give up smoking and lung disease hampered the full effects of analgesia to control the pain. Details of the patient's background, history of illness, treatment while in hospital, and advice on discharge are also included.
