Brimonidine - an alpha(sub)2-agonist for glaucoma
Article Abstract:
Brimonidine tartrate has been approved for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is an alpha(sub)2-adrenergic agonist that works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, which lowers intraocular pressure. Clinical trials have established its effectiveness in lowering intraocular pressure without adversely affecting the heart. Adverse effects include eye redness or stinging and dry mouth. Marketed under the trade name Alphagan, it is more expensive than many other drugs used to treat glaucoma.

Alpha-, beta-, gamma-globulin - Arne Tiselius and the advent of electrophoresis
Article Abstract:
The impact of Swedish biologist Arne Tiselius' studies of protein electrophoresis on the medical sciences is evaluated. His electrophoresis techniques are now being used in modern biochemical, clinical and molecular biology laboratories. Tiselius work on gamma-globulins is also widely used in immunology research. After ceasing experimental research, Tiselius remained active in supporting other fields of scientific research.

WHAT IS GLAUCOMA?
Article Abstract:
Glaucoma is an eye disease that causes progressive and irreversible damage to the optic nerve, resulting in loss of peripheral visual field and eventual blindness. Diagnosing Glaucoma is often difficult because the damage to the optic nerve ranges from low to high, which may not correlate with loss of peripheral visual field.
