Clinton plan backlash could revive Canadian model
Article Abstract:
A New York Times/CBS poll indicates that 59% of Americans favor a single-payer healthcare system similar to Canada's. That figure could rise when more people are apprised of the differences between single-payer and managed care. The chief merits of single-payer are freedom of choice, regulated fees, fewer administrative logjams for doctors and equal care for all. The Democratic single-payer bill currently before Congress has more sponsors than any healthcare bill to date.

GOP disagreements may ease Clinton reform plan
Article Abstract:
Congressional Republicans are divided on how to implement health care reform and will face intense pressure to vote for a version of Pres Clinton's reform plan. Republican members of Congress have not introduced their own plan, but have signed a letter to Clinton opposing an employer mandate to pay for health care or a payroll tax. Many of these Republicans' constituents favor some type of health care reform.
