Burden of Disease--Implications for Future Research
Article Abstract:
Worldwide, many diseases are caused by poverty, lack of sanitation, poor water supplies, and poor personal hygiene. Others are caused by behaviors such as smoking, drug use, drinking of alcoholic beverages, overeating and physical inactivity. The goal of medical research is to maintain and extend the health advances that were made in the 20th century.

Prospects for Vaccines to Protect Against AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria
Article Abstract:
Research on AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria reveal that T cells are critical in fighting the infections. Consequently, vaccines that stimulate the proper T cell response may be useful in preventing these diseases.
