A program to prevent bleeding complications in older patients taking warfarin
Article Abstract:
A patient education program can reduce the risk of bleeding in patients taking warfarin, according to a study of 325 patients. This drug reduces the risk of blood clot formation but can increase the risk of bleeding. The patient education program taught patients how to test their blood at home to see if warfarin levels were too high.

A videotape-based decision aid for colon cancer screening
Article Abstract:
An educational video for patients may increase the number of adults 50 years and older who request screening for colorectal cancer, according to a study of 249 patients. Screening can detect intestinal polyps that are considered to be precursors of colorectal cancer, which can then be surgically removed.
