Cancer treatment's trade-off: Years of added life can have long-term costs
Article Abstract:
Researchers and clinicians discussed the challenges to improving quality of life and long-term care of cancer survivors at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The health status of adult survivors of childhood cancers is assess by the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study and found that, compared with a healthy sibling, an individual treated for cancer in the 1970s or 1980s was four times more likely to have a moderate, severe, life-threatening disabling, or fatal health problem.
