Capitation, point of service and Medicare Select: friends or foes
Article Abstract:
Health care providers need to educate themselves about capitation, point of service (POS), and Medicare Select and how these reimbursement methods are influencing the nature of healthcare delivery. Capitation usually involves monthly payment of a fixed fee to a health care provider or health plan. POS offers out-of-network services at increased costs. Medicare Select allows patients to pay their insurers, and providers receive reimbursements similar to those under traditional medicare standards.

Customer service: the key to market differentiation
Article Abstract:
Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) focusing on customer satisfaction will likely survive in an increasingly competitive market. Strategies to achieve this target include a commitment to customer satisfaction from the top down, encouraging and enabling employees to strive and succeed, and establishing effective communication lines within and outside the SNF. SNFs also need to realize their customers are not only patients but third party payers, employees, doctors, hospitals, and vendors.
