Catheter ablation treatment of supraventricular tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy
Article Abstract:
Catheter ablation appears to be effective and safe in treating heart disease in children caused by overly rapid heart beat. During catheter ablation, a catheter is threaded into the heart and radiowaves destroy the tissue triggering the abnormal heartbeat. Eight children between 10 months and 21 years old had catheter ablation and were followed up for 9 months to 3 years. The procedure cured seven and the eighth was improved and could be controlled by medication thereafter. Drug therapy for this condition can be problematic, and the risks of standard surgery exceed those of the catheter technique.

Radiofrequency treatment of abnormal heart rhythm can damage the vessels that return blood from the lungs to the heart
Article Abstract:
Patients with atrial fibrillation who were treated with radiofrequency ablation may develop blockages in their pulmonary vein, according to a study of 335 patients. Radiofrequency ablation uses radio waves to destroy abnormal nerve impulses in the pulmonary vein, which causes atrial fibrillation. However, the treatment can cause scars in the vein.

Cost-effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation for supraventricular tachycardia
Article Abstract:
Radiofrequency ablation is the most cost-effective treatment for supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), according to a computer simulation. SVT is a very rapid heartbeat that is usually treated with drugs. Radiofrequency ablation involves using an electrode to destroy the abnormal heart tissue that causes SVT.
