Catheter confusion
Article Abstract:
A study has been made into nurses' knowledge of catheter selection and use. About 63% of a random sample of 113 nurses and junior doctors in a general hospital responded to a questionnaire. Many respondents considered weight, gender and catheter availability relevant although length of use and urine appearance were important factors. Respondents considered gender relevant to size selection although urine appearance should have governed choice. More than 66% considered their knowledge inadequate although 58 respondents made the correct choice for long-term use.
