Caucus could give IMGs a louder voice in the new AMA
Article Abstract:
The International Medical Graduates (IMG) Caucus has been organized to give IMGs greater clout inside the American Medical Assn (AMA) and to effect the outcome of the AMA's reorganization process. The IMG Caucus also wants to encourage the creation of similar caucuses representing other communities of physicians such as minorities and women. The IMG Caucus believes that a network structure of caucuses would augment the AMA's official structure and promote diversity by promoting awareness of different communities' interests.

HMOs scrutinize doctor credentials
Article Abstract:
Health maintenance organizations (HMOs) are becoming increasingly careful about examining the medical credentials of physicians they wish to employ. Courts have held that an HMO can be held liable for negligent care by doctors contracting with it, so HMOs want to minimize their risk. Doctors do not, in general, object to scrutiny of their credentials. However, some doctors and physician organizations are concerned about the lack of standardized credentialing criteria and procedures.
