Caution: baby on board
Article Abstract:
The Royal College of Midwives in the UK is drawing up policy guidelines to help midwives in their work with patients who are surrogate mothers. Press and political arguments about the subject may deter midwives, but the guidelines will state that the midwife has a duty to care for the pregnant woman. The midwife can encourage discussion between the pregnant woman and the parents to ensure that issues, including the management of pain relief and the feeding of the baby, are fully discussed to avoid later conflict. However, the needs of the pregnant woman have the greater importance.

Cutting edge
Article Abstract:
Bradford Royal Infirmary is offering a circumcision service, costing 65 pounds sterling, to parents who wish their male babies circumcised for religious reasons. There is increasing criticism of religious circumcision on the grounds that it violates the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Also, it is considered unnecessary, carries risks of infection and haemorrhaging and can cause psychological damage. Opposition has come from some members of the Jewish community and also The National Organisation of Circumcision Information Resource Centres.
