Central diabetes insipidus: a complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt malfunction during pregnancy
Article Abstract:
Shunts for brain and spinal fluid may be at higher risk of becoming blocked during pregnancy, and permanent diabetes insipidus may be a resulting complication. Diabetes insipidus is caused by a lack of pituitary antidiuretic hormone output and results in dehydration from excessive urination. A 31-year-old 26 weeks' pregnant woman was unresponsive after two months of headaches, vomiting, and progressive loss of consciousness. Two years earlier, a brain and spinal fluid shunt was placed after an illness. She was rehydrated and the shunt, which was found to be blocked, was flushed. Diabetes insipidus was suspected, and the patient responded to antidiuretic hormone treatment. The fetus resumed growth until 34 weeks' gestation, and cesarean delivery resulted in a healthy infant. Diabetes insipidus continued.

Decreased plasma adiponectin concentrations in women with gestational diabetes mellitus
Article Abstract:
