Changing the code
Article Abstract:
Views differ regarding the changes due to be introduced in the third edition of the UKCC's 'Code of Professional Conduct for the Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor.' While UKCC assistant registrar, standards and ethics, Reg Pyne, sees the changes as further emphasising the professional accountability of nurses, midwives and health visitors to patients and clients, director of the National Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Ethics, Geoffrey Hunt, sees them as re-emphasising that the code is more concerned with protecting the public than with protecting the professions. A comparison of the old and new codes is included.

Goodwill or hard sell?
Article Abstract:
Pharmaceutical companies attend health conferences and sponsor awards to develop public relations. They aim to increase product awareness and good will. Companies hope to increase sales but deny selling is the primary motive. The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry regulates the marketing of drugs. However, the Association of British Healthcare Industries has no code of practice.
