Characterization of the HIV-1 specific humoral immune response during highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)
Article Abstract:
The HIV-1-specific humoral immune response during highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has been characterized using plasma samples from 19 patients. The factors involved in the high failure rate of HAART may include, in addition to emergence of HIV strains resistant to the drugs, this response. It may interact with both virus replication and drug therapy. A strong HIV-directed humoral immune response, as measured by V3 binding antibodies and neutralizing antibody responses before HAART, correlated with future viral suppression on HAART.

Amplification dynamics: predicting the effect of HIV on tuberculosis outbreaks
Article Abstract:
The effect of HIV on tuberculosis (TB) outbreaks and prediction of the effect are discussed with consideration of implications for global control and planned US elimination. A discrete event simulation model was used to predict the potential impact of HIV on increasing the probability and expected severity of TB outbreaks. Predictions showed that an HIV epidemic can significantly increase frequency and severity of TB outbreaks, but that this amplification effect of HIV on outbreaks is very sensitive to the TB treatment rate.

Long-term impact of IL-2 therapy on HIV infection. Immunologic and virologic consequences
Article Abstract:
The immunologic and virologic consequences and long-term impact of intermittent interleukin (IL) 2 therapy on HIV infection is discussed. It is concluded that the correlates of IL-2-induced immunologic reconstitution, in addition to the restoration of a normal number of circulating CD4 T-cells remain to be fully uncovered.
