Using computers to enhance care in a GP practice
Article Abstract:
Computers are already used in nursing for clinical, administrative and educational functions, but usage could be expanded to allow patients and medical personnel to communicate over distances while also ensuring good care. The PICS computer program has been developed by a team at the St Thomas' Health Centre in Exeter, England. GPs and district nurses are able to use PICS to share information through a spreadsheet and it is anticipated that the program will enhance patient care auditing. Communication between the district nurses and the GPs at the centre had previously been inadequate.

The use of maggots as a new treatment in the community
Article Abstract:
The tissue viability service in Plymouth Teaching Primary Care Trust (tPCT) has held a budget to provide new maggots therapy in the community for the past four years from 2004. Utmost care should be taken while selecting the right patient and the right wound for the application of maggots therapy so that the procedure could be used effectively, efficiently and appropriately.
