Chelation Therapy for Patients with Elevated Body Lead Burden and Progressive Renal Insufficiency: A Randomized, Controlled Trial
Article Abstract:
Chelation therapy appears to slow the progression of kidney disease in people with elevated blood lead levels. Chelation therapy involves treating someone with chemicals that eliminate heavy metals like lead from the body. In a study of 32 people with mildly elevated blood lead levels and chronic kidney disease, those who received chelation therapy had a slower progression of their kidney disease than those who did not receive chelation therapy.

Diagnosis and evaluation of patients with chronic kidney disease: recommendations from the National Kidney Foundation
Article Abstract:
People who have risk factors for kidney disease should have their glomerular filtration rate (GFR) measured. This is a blood and urine test that tells doctors how well the kidneys are functioning. It can be done using a single urine sample. People whose GFR test reveals the early stages of kidney disease should be advised to control their blood pressure, blood sugar, and other risk factors to slow the progression of kidney disease.

Resistance training enhances the value of protein restriction in the treatment of chronic kidney disease
Article Abstract:
Weight lifting and other forms of resistance training may benefit patients with chronic kidney disease who must eat a low-protein diet. A low-protein diet can cause muscle loss, and resistance training can reverse this trend.
