Childhood activity and diet in prevention of obesity: a review of the evidence
Article Abstract:
Hereditary factors will influence a person's likelihood of becoming obese but other factors, such as the type and volume of the available foods, exercise and cultural influences will determine whether a person goes on to become obese. Physical exercise helps to prevent obesity and fat children do less than children who are not fat. This continues into adult life so children need to be encouraged to do more exercise as a preventative measure. The balance of fat and carbohydrate in the diet is also important. Details are given.

Changing the nation's diet: a study of responses to current nutritional messages
Article Abstract:
A study of dietary choices among respondents from Leicestershire in 1994 has revealed that 64% made dietary changes as a result of healthy eating messages. The sample group included men and women aged 18 to 65. Over 90% of the sample correctly identified that we should be eating less fat, sugar, salt, sweet and fried foods; and more fibre, fruit and vegetables. However, only 50% of respondents identified starchy foods as something we should be eating more of.
