Chlamydia trachomatis: the more you look, the more you find - how much is there?
Article Abstract:
Broad-based screening for chlamydial infection should be undertaken to determine the prevalance of the sexually transmitted disease. Chlamydia trachomatis is a bacteria that causes pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and urethritis. Tissue culture testing reveals that 20% or more of clients at sexually transmitted disease clinics are infected, and more sensitive nucleic acid amplification tests may reveal an even higher rate. A simple urine test could establish if current chlamydia estimates are too low, and ensure that infected people are adequately treated.

STD Testing Policies and Practices in U.S. City and County Jails
Article Abstract:
State, county, and local governments should provide more funding to test arrestees for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). A survey of city and county jails nationwide found that most jails only tested arrestees if the person requested it or if he or she had symptoms of an STD. Fewer than 10% of arrestees were ever tested. Larger jails were more likely to test a greater percentage of arrestees. Half of the arrestees were released before the results of the test were known.
