Choice without fear
Article Abstract:
Women with breast cancer should receive advice on the available treatment options. Mastectomy may not be necessary if less invasive surgery is appropriate. However, early detection improves the chance of successful treatment. Recommended treatment depends on the invasive or non-invasive nature of the cancer. 'Lumpectomy' may be suitable for tumours smaller than four centimetres and chemotherapy may reduce larger tumours to render them operable. Hormone therapy may be appropriate as primary or adjuvant treatment. However, some women prefer mastectomy.

Diagnosis of leg ulcers
Article Abstract:
Leg ulceration treatment represents an annual cost of 400 million pounds sterling in the UK. The condition is most commonly found in the elderly and can be the result of chronic venous or arterial insufficiency. Arterial ulcers are the result of a drop in arterial blood supply to a lower limb. Compression and elevation can both exacerbate the condition. Venous ulcers result from venous pressure through valvular incompetence.

Compression therapy
Article Abstract:
Venous leg ulcers are mainly treated with compression therapy, which requires considerable skill. Bandages are the most common form of compression therapy, however, care must be taken so that they do not slip, or that they are not applied too tightly. Inappropriate application can sometimes result in amputation of the limb. Details of the various treatments for venous leg ulcers are given.
