Starved of attention
Article Abstract:
Nurses have an important role to play in the dietary needs of their patients, however ill they are. The most vulnerable patients, who are often terminally or mentally ill, require special care and nurses have an ethical duty to ensure that such patients are served with appropriate food and drink in a dignified and pleasant manner. Too often, such aspects of hospital care remain unrecognized, and patients' needs are ignored.

Article Abstract:
Nurses should take pride in their colleagues' achievements as they contribute to the status of the nursing profession. Envy causes many nurses to discourage personal ambition and initiative through lack of cooperation. However, the general reputation of nurses is enhanced through individual success. A change of attitude is necessary to ensure a future progressive environment.

In praise of intolerance
Article Abstract:
Sexual and racial prejudice devalues nursing. Nurses should enforce high standards of practice within the profession to ensure fair treatment of patients. Nurses should challenge prejudiced behaviour of their superiors if necessary. The Department of Health and Royal College of Nursing initiatives are inadequte without nurses' support.
