Cholera in Peru
Article Abstract:
The cholera epidemic that struck Peru in 1991 continues to propagate, although the government's improved sanitation and water quality effort is beginning to take effect. In the long term, improved water treatment will reduce the incidence of disease in Peru.

Cholera: a challenge for the 21st century
Article Abstract:
Cholera is not a threat in most countries, although outbreaks can occur in areas with poor sanitation and contaminated drinking water. There were more than 200,000 cases of cholera internationally in 1996; 5,000 people died from the disease.

Keeping cholera at bay
Article Abstract:
Peru established a Cholera Control Command committee once health officials realized the disease could reach epidemic proportions. Community based education and care programs are the key to preventing spread of disease.
