Preparing for loss
Article Abstract:
Nursing support may help parents cope with a child's death. Nurses should ensure parents have all relevant information in the final stages of illness. Family involvement in decision making and helping care for the child may counter feelings of helplessness. Family contact at the time of death may also be beneficial. Acceptance involves working through several phases of grief. Nursing support for the family should also continue after the death including the provision of information on support services.

A new strategy
Article Abstract:
A nursing documentation study by the Nursing Development Unit at Dulwich Hospital, London has indicated a need for improved practice. The existing problem orientated approach to documentation hinders the recording of non-problem related interventions. Routine aspects of care are often ommitted. Information retrieval is also impeded by large amounts of written information. Flow charts may be a more effective method of recording patient care.
