Cleanliness is next to costliness
Article Abstract:
Improved infection control in UK hospitals could reduce save 5,000 lives a year and bring significant financial benefits, according to a report from the National Audit Office. The report indicates that a rise in risk factors for infection has not been matched by a rise in resources or countermeasures. Effective infection control is being put at risk by trends including early discharge and increased staff mobility. The National Health Service Confederation believes that only additional resources will be really effective in combatting hospital-acquired infection.
