Clinical risk assessment for mental health nurses
Article Abstract:
Nurses need a reliable framework to help assess clinical risk when dealing with mental health patients who may cause harm to themselves or others. The development of a risk management cycle allows risk to be assessed while formulating a complimentary care programme. The assessment guide consists of a 6-step programme which follows the patient through the process of potential harm identification to assessing risk, monitoring and review. The systematic format of the cycle offers nurses the ability to better manage risk while providing effective care for patients.

Predicting pressure ulcer risk
Article Abstract:
A study of the effectiveness of the Braden scale in determining risk for pressure ulcers was conducted in three American nursing homes. The tests indicated that patients with a Braden score of 18 or higher were likely to develop pressure ulcers. The results were compared with a method using skin assessment to determine risk.
