Coaching for life
Article Abstract:
The coach system, in which one person delivers all the rehabilitation processes, has been shown to be very successful in assisting patients who have problem behaviours as a result of brain injury. This system is suitable for people who are regarded as having behaviour which is beyond the scope of ordinary rehabilitation programmes. It is important that therapeutic activities are designed to fit in with the tolerance of the individual patient, and this level of refinement cannot be achieved by most rehabilitation services. The coach system is made up of three main elements: the transdisciplinary team, behaviour modification and skills transfer.

Sex on wheels
Article Abstract:
Severe disabilities do not prevent people from fulfilling an active and varied sex life, although some may require artificial help or sexual therapists to achieve satisfaction. The strong effects of hormones throughout the body will help people with the most severe nerve and muscle damage to maintain sexual feelings. Disabled people should not be made to feel ashamed about their need for sex which may offend others who are overly sensitive.

Road to recovery
Article Abstract:
Health professionals should ensure that treatment of brain-injured patients is consistent with their ability. Misuse of control may hinder rehabilitation. Professionals should encourage patients to reestablish their autonomy. They may need to relearn skills and rebuild confidence. A case manager should ensure appropriate treatment conducive to successful social reintegration.
