Collective bargaining is the right step
Article Abstract:
The experience of the medical residents at Boston City Hospital shows that a union of residents can improve working conditions for residents as well as improving patient care. The residents at the hospital have been unionized since 1969. In 1976, the National Labor Relations Board ruled that medical residents were students and could not join unions. When the hospital merged with Boston University Medical Center Hospital in 1996, the residents successfully petitioned the NLRB to overturn this ruling. The only strike occurred in 1980 and lasted for 6 days.

Immunization against Lyme disease - an important first step
Article Abstract:
An effective vaccine against the organism that causes Lyme disease has been developed. Two 1998 studies found that the vaccine was effective in preventing infection in many people living in areas where the disease is endemic. However, it is not known whether the bacterium responsible for the disease will mutate or whether vaccinated people will require booster shots. The vaccine causes the production of antibodies against the outer-surface lipoprotein A of the bacterium.
