Patterns of resistance mutations to antiretroviral drugs in extensively treated IHV-1-infected patients with failure of highly active antiretroviral therapy
Article Abstract:
Patients who do not respond to highly active antiretroviral therapy may have a strain of HIV that is resistant to the drugs. In a study of 22 such patients, all had a viral strain that was resistant to zidovudine, saquinavir, indinavir, stavudine, abacavir, ritonavir, and nelfinavir.

Comparison of drug resistance mutations and their interpretation in patients infected with non-B HIV-1 variants and matched patients infected with HIV-1 subtype B
Article Abstract:
The prevalence of mutations associated with resistance to antiretroviral drugs and their interpretation in patients infected with non-B HIV-1 variants is compared with HIV-1 subtype B-infected patients with similar treatment regimens. The results suggested that genetic diversity of HIV-1 does not play major role in the development of resistance to antiretroviral drugs.

CXCR4 over expression during the course of HIV-1 infection correlates with the emergence of X4 strains
Article Abstract:
CXCR4 density on the peripheral blood T cells of HIV infected subjects was analyzed during the course of the disease to test whether CXCR4 expression could be involved in the development of X4 strains. Results revealed that CXCR4 over expression during the course of the disease in some patients could favor the emergence of X4 strains.
