Comparison of the traditional paper visual analogue scale questionnaire with an Apple Newton electronic appetite rating system (EARS) in free living subjects feeding ad libitum
Article Abstract:
Visual analogue scales have been use for many years to assess degrees of subjective experience, such as pain and appetite, but the assessment is open to errors and misinterpretation. A new study develops a novel electronic system for use on a portable, electronic notepad computer, such as an Apple Newton Message Pad. It is shown that the electronic appetite rating system and the paper visual analogues scale questionnaire are equally reliable and sensitive. The electronic method has the advantage of automatic recording and more efficient processing.

Effects of different soluble:insoluble fibre ratios at breakfastg on 24-h pattern of dietary intake and satiety
Article Abstract:
A moderate level of fibre in the breakfast exerts a mild effect on lunch, while a high level of fiber considerably reduces the intake of lunch taken after three and a half hours. The total daily energy intake is, however unaffected. A combination of soluble and insoluble fibers in equal amounts has little effect on the energy intake at lunchtime in women. The insoluble fibers have a satiety effect soon after consumption while the soluble fibers produce the same effect many hours later.

Influence of a high-fibre food (myco-protein) on appetite: effects on satiation (within meals) and satiety (following meals)
Article Abstract:
The intake of high protein food and dietary fibre in food has a satiating effect. The level of satiety was equal if such high fibre food was taken within meals or after meals. The study reveals that Quron meal, containing a high-protein and dietary fibre combination, may help in controlling appetite and checking increase in body weight.
